Holiday Puzzle

At least this is a puzzle I can't seem to solve currently. It's holiday time, thanksgiving has just passed and Christmas and New Years are around the corner. It's supposed to be a time of cheer and love right? My answer to that rhetorical question... wrong. All i see are couples breaking up left and right. Sure there are those loving couples strolling around in the mall, outdoors by parks, in coffee shops, but does anyone even see the mass amount of relationships ending this time of the year? What's up with that? It really bothers me to see so many people going through a tough time with their emotions around such a happy time of year. It makes it ever so much harder that all the love and cheerfulness is expressed more openly around this time, leaving those dealing with harder emotions bereft of that feeling.

So tell me, is there something that makes people scared of being in a relationship with people around the holidays? According to me, this should be a time when couples have the time of their lives, reminiscing and revisiting how much they love each other, not putting an end to something during the supposed "happiest time of the year."

It's unfortunate that you have to see couples breaking up because it's the season of warmth and getting together. What would be worst? Breaking up before Christmas or staying together just for the sake of Christmas and a meaningless celebration?
